Beat up Beetle

My husband and I joined a walking club that goes on walks once a month (with a break in our hot summer months). It's part of a larger walking group called Volkssport (http://www.ava.org/). The link is the American Volkssport club that has lists of all the clubs in case any of you in the USA would like to do it. Since the concept began in Germany, I am sure there must be clubs in other countries as well. Anyway, for the Houston club, each month they have an event somewhere around the Houston metro area including small towns, nature parks etc. January was Galveston, which was when a lot of the previous photos were taken. The walks are 10K and 5K, your choice. You walk at your pace, arrive anytime between 9-12, and checkout anytime between 12-3pm. It's a great way for us to get out and see things that we may not go see ourselves. I have started bringing my camera along, which makes the walk take longer, but its fun for me and there are usually a lot of photo ops. This a long intro to the Wharton, Texas photos from our February walk. Wharton is a small city just Southwest of Houston. The small towns have a lot of fun things to see, including beat up old cars, cute historic downtowns, and other random things like a huge dinasour statue.

Great title, great photo, and what a great idea - the Volkssport!
Ladicola: Thank you! Yes, the walks are great, really gets you out to see nearby places that you might never see.
I am not a great walker so taking a camera persuades me out! Looks like this Herbie is past it!
Ladicola: I do like to walk, but the camera definitely makes it even more interesting. Yes, poor Herbie!

A brilliant idea to take your camera with you on these walks
Ladicola: Yes, I didn't take my camera out on our first couple of walks, and I missed some good photo opportunities. For instance, Montgomery City, Texas has a statue of a goat that used to stop by the town for water, and then later beer and snacks.
